The Alternative Press 25th Anniversary Art Show will open on Friday, July 9 from 7:30pm-11:00pm (VIP party and opening reception). The Public opening reception will be happening on Saturday, July 10, from 8:00-11:00pm (Public opening reception) at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery (170 S. La Brea, Los Angeles, CA 90036). Cleveland-based youth culture magazine ALTERNATIVE PRESS (AP) is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a group exhibition at the prestigious Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles with a VIP party and opening reception July 9 and public viewing July 10. The gallery display– featuring AP’s vast archives and original works of art from iconic musicians and renowned visual artists–will be comprised of paintings, drawings, photography and sculpture.

The visual artists/musicians contributing works for the events include: MARILYN MANSON, BLACK FRANCIS (Pixies), GERARD WAY (My Chemical Romance), SHIRLEY MANSON (Garbage), TIM ARMSTRONG (Rancid), CAMILLE ROSE GARCIA (The Real Minks), SHEPARD FAIREY, ADAM JONES (Tool), MATT SKIBA (Alkaline Trio), PETE WENTZ (Fall Out Boy), DEREK HESS, TARA MCPHERSON, AUSTIN SELLERS, JOBY J. “I have been witness to so many changes over the years in the publishing world, however, one constant has been the talented artists we work with,” explains publisher Norman Wonderly. “This exhibit showcases amazing musicians whose talent extends beyond the stage.”

Since 1985, ALTERNATIVE PRESS a.k.a. AP has been an important independent voice for music fans looking for more than the commercial option. What started out as a local fanzine 25 years ago has developed into an internationally distributed magazine covering the contemporary punk scene. The artists appearing in the gallery exhibit reflect the diversity that has appeared in the pages of ALTERNATIVE PRESS in the last quarter-century.

The Los Angeles art show will open on Friday, July 9 from 7:30pm-11:00pm (VIP party and opening reception).
