El Mac has a new print titled Persephone set to drop tomorrow via a pre-sale at Buddha Cat Press. The first 20 pre-sale buyers that get in early, will score this at $250. After the 20 are gone, the price will raise to $300 where it will stay until the edition is sold out.
This beauty, titled Persephone, is a five color serigraph on Arches Cover Black. Although this is a companion we chose a finer quality paper which has a richer, more velvety feel. We also used PermaPrint inks to give it a thick enamel look.
These are going on pre-sale March 26, 2010 until April 9, 2010. The first 20 will be pre-sold at $250 each. After pre-sales or the first 20 sell out, the price will go up to $300. Still a great deal! This print was hand-pulled (no press!) by Master Printer Karen Fiorito with the assistance of Kevin Fernandez.

Love his work but why is it so expensive?
Well I think it has to do with a combo of small edition sizes, high quality print methods, and the fame he’s earned by his massive murals in large cities. Exposure has put him in a great place!

Volta Basel 2010:
At VOLTA6, RIVERA & RIVERA presents a live art event with legendary Los Angeles street artists, Mear One, Kofie, Retna and El Mac. They’ll work on the fly and in the open to create works of art that change the way we see, feel, and interact with our urban environments.
The event provides an opportunity for Volta patrons to witness how street artists work and watch the live unfolding of “pieces” within the context of an international fine art fair. For the five-day run of the fair, these four artists will create large-scale (up to 3.5 meters x 7 meters) pieces in their signature styles using acrylic and aerosol paints to be completed — or near completion — by the end of the fair. This project is of unique art-historical value, as it represents a major shift in not only contemporary aesthetics, but in the public perception of street art generally.
You can view the live art in progress at Volta Basel online from 5AM – 1PM PST here.
