About a month ago, I did a little Scavenger Hunt; part social media experiment, part reward to my loyal fans. I took a recently completed painting, Mystic Mountain People, and made five giclee prints of it. On each print, I painted a different little character and then signed and numbered them as A/P 1-5. On a Tuesday afternoon, I took each print, packaged in a mailing tube, and dropped them around LA, from downtown to the Sunset Strip.

I tweeted a photo and a hint for each print that I dropped off. It was really rad to see people’s responses and how quickly it took for people to find ‘em. I asked whoever found the tube to tweet a photo of it. It was a little while before the first couple were found; just like making street art, you put something out there and don’t know what will come of it. Anyway, you should follow me on twitter if you aren’t already doing so.

I quite like the painting and I made a small edition of them which will be available here tomorrow, November 11 at 10am PST. Each is 16×16 inches (paper is 18×18), signed and numbered in an edition of 50 and available for $150 (plus S+H) at the Buff Monster Site.

New Zine
This is the first zine I’ve done in about 10 years, (and the first Buff Monster zine). It’s a collection of ink drawings from my London show, drawings for prints, pencil drawings I did in Rome, some Illustrator graphics and other random things.

It was 10 years ago, sometime in early 2001, that I first drew the little Buff Monster character. I first started making my “10×10 panels” in 2005; it was a suggestion from my dad. Back then I would cut all the wood myself, borrowing a chop saw from one friend and a table saw from another. I’ve made a bunch of those panels, though never more than around 30 per design; a few of those designs I may have made 50 of. For such a simple object, they really do take a lot of work. Lately I’ve been wondering if I should continue making them. I haven’t made up my mind, but I did think that it would be fitting to create a special 10-year design. And I’m going to release them on my website, which I’ve never done before. Each comes in a special hand-silkscreened box, which I’ve also never done before. They’re all signed and numbered by me.

Tomorrow (Thursday) at 10am PST, I’ll release the half of the edition (#1-#15) on buffmonster.com. Each is $275 at the Buff Monster site, plus shipping and handling. Each panel will ship with a new sticker pack.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, at 10 am PST, I’ll be releasing some new goodies:

First, “Eye of the Serpent”, the new collaborative print with Brian Ewing. We reworked the art from the Faith No More poster we did, added in some more awesomeness, and silkscreened it in four colors on super sexy archival rag paper. It’s signed by both of us.

Second, a new plush figure!!! This is the website exclusive colorway, edition of 200.

Third, playing cards! Yup, clear Buff Monster playing cards. They’re super awesome, signed by me.

Each figure is carefully painted by me and then finished with a super high gloss automotive clear coat. Each comes in a cardboard box (silksceened by me) filled with pink Easter grass, a four-color silkscreened print, signed and numbered by me and a little piece of shammy so you can easily remove dust and fingerprints, keeping it looking great for a long time.
