Carnivorus Musicalis By Emek And The Faded Line Clothing Company

Emek and The Faded Line Clothing Line Company have teamed up to release a series of special edition Bateeks. Carnivorus Musicalis was oriignally illustated by Emek for the Coachella Music Festival and it has now been adapted to another medium. The process of creating these is quite interesting and in essence, each of these is hand painted by a family that resides in Bali. A portion of the sale from each Bateek will go towards new filtration systems within the Bali communities. Check out the details below and get yours tomorrow when the time is right.

Each batik is hand painted by a family in Bali. Upon arrival in the US, they are signed and numbered by Emek. No two batiks are the same! In addition to a wall hanging, some people frame the batiks or even wear as a sarong. Limit one per order.

The Carnivorus Musicalus was originally used on as the official event poster for the 2007 Coachella Music Festival – beautifully illustrated by Emek.

A portion of every sale will go towards new filtration systems. The family who makes each wall hanging by hand is paid very well and hopes you love our product!

The word batik (pronounced Bateek) means “wax written” and this is basically what batik is. It is a way of decorating cloth by covering part of it with a coat of wax and then dyeing the cloth. The waxed area keeps its original color and when the wax is removed the contrast between the dyed and undyed area makes the pattern. Big, bold designs in bright colors are most striking.

The fabric is 100% Indonesian rayon. Made from natural plant cellulose (in this case coconut fiber). The fiber is put through a process using alkaline, making into a woven fiber. It makes for a good durable textile. There are many different qualities of rayon and we only work with the highest quality.

The dyes are a colorfast – the same as the dyes used for any textiles. Unfortunately it is not a natural dye; as natural dyes will wear and fade very quickly. However, the dye baths go in to a filtration process being disposed which is a progressive environmental step for the people of Bali. All the dyes are hand blended to get the different shades. Then they are literally painted between the wax lines with paint brushes.
